Most Tracks On for Racing Despite Cold

While weather has cancelled racing at a handful of tracks, many others plan to push through the cold and run races.

While there is plenty of great racing still on schedule tonight, the highlight is probably Toledo Speedway in Toledo, OH.  The ARCA / CRA Super Series and Midwest Tour will both hit the track for the 7-UP 150 tonight at 5 PM.  Sharon Speedway features its first Super Late Model Showdown night of the year, while Hilltop Speedway hosts EDGE Modifieds.  Also, a pair of FAST series compete at Fremont and Columbus.  Drivers battling for the Fremont Attica Sprint Title hit up Fremont Speedway for the first time of 2013, while FAST Series Legend Cars take to Columbus Speedway.

Weather was cold and damp enough to cancel racing at Attica Raceway Park last night, and also led to the cancellations of four other races.  Midvale Speedway and Lorain County Speedway were both scheduled to start their seasons tonight, but have pushed things back to the 27th now.  Eldora and Deerfield also cancelled events due to weather conditions.

Weather Cancels Dirt Racing

Due to the damp, cold weather and rain across the region, racing has been cancelled at dirt tracks this weekend.  Attica, Sharon, Fremont, and Wayne County Speedway have all cancelled racing due to track flooding and poor parking lot conditions.

For most of the tracks, weekly racing will resume next week.  Wayne County Speedway was scheduled to host the World of Outlaw Late Models this weekend, but has announced the visit has been postponed to a later date.  The series will return to kick off Memorial Day Weekend on May 24th.

Columbus Motor Speedway is still scheduled to race tonight.

Season Opens Saturday at Attica

After snow, rain, and cold conditions washed out last week’s action, cars will take to the track today at Attica and Hilltop.

Attica Raceway Park had cancelled their Friday night visit from the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions, but their scheduled race tonight will be one of two dirt tracks opening up the 2013 calendar.  The Sprints will be joined by the track’s UMP DIRTcar Late Models and 305 Sprints for a full night of racing.  Main gates at the track open at 4 PM, with racing starting at 7 PM.  Adults are $22 through the door, with discounts for seniors and children.

Hilltop Speedway is the other track opening tonight with their weekly divisions of racing.  The Millersburg, OH track will feature Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Trucks, and Mini Wedges.  Stands open at 4 PM, with hotlaps at 5 PM and racing at 6:30 PM.  General admission costs $10, and kids 12 and under are free.

Attica Opener Cancelled, Focus Shifts to All Star Weekend

Mother Nature is delaying Attica Raceway Park‘s silver season by a week, as the track cancelled Friday’s (March 22nd) opener due to poor conditions.

“The grounds, especially the parking areas, are just too wet and soft,” stated Director of Operations Rex LeJeune in a track release.  He continued, saying, “With rain and ice and snow the first couple of days of the week and very little drying opportunity and coupled with the forecast which calls for highs only in the mid 30s and lows in the 20s….that’s not a good combination for the fans and race teams.”

The delay means that Attica’s 25th season will instead kick off with a full weekend of UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints.  A full slate of racing will run on Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th.  Series on the schedule include the All Star Sprints, UMP DIRTcar Late Models, and 305 Sprints.  Gates open at 5 PM and 4 PM, respectively.  Adult tickets for Friday are $18 and $22 on Saturday.  Kids under ten are free.  For full pricing and race times, visit Attica Raceway Park’s website.

Sharon Speedway is still scheduled to kick off its season on Saturday, March 23rd.  Their “Springduro” Enduro is scheduled for a 2:30 PM start time.  Adult tickets are $7, kids 13 and under are free.

Attica Raceway Park has Big Plans for Silver Anniversary

Attica Raceway Park is planning to celebrate its “Silver Anniversary” in style this year, with plans to bring six touring series in 2013.

The 25 year old track will feature three late model tours, two sprint tours, and one modified tour.  UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions will be the first major touring series to stop by, featuring two days of racing on March 29th and 30th.  The All Star Sprints will end up visiting Attica a total of five times this year.  Continue reading Attica Raceway Park has Big Plans for Silver Anniversary
