Season Opens at Sharon Speedway

Even with snow showers still scattered about and on the heels of a cold, wet winter, all systems are a go for Saturday’s 2013 opener at Sharon Speedway! The 84th anniversary season will get underway at 7 p.m. on April 6 featuring Sharon’s “Steel Valley Thunder” program consisting of Governor Insurance Agency DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply RUSH Late Models, Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks.

The planned early season events at Sharon did not get off the ground as the lack of snow in January cancelled the “Circle Track Showdown” Snowmobile races three times and then wet grounds didn’t allow for the open practice and “Springduro 150” Enduro to happen the past two weeks. “Springduro” Cancelled by Weather

Sharon Speedway has cancelled its “Springduro 150” scheduled for March 30th due to weather.

For a second week, the track has had to scrap plans for the event because of Mother Nature intervening with cold temperatures, rain, and snow melt.  Officials were concerned with both the 3/8-mile dirt track surface and surrounding parking areas.

“Nothing has changed since last Wednesday when we had to postpone the event, in fact with the additional rounds of wet snow and cold conditions things are worse,” explained General Manager Dave Willoughby in a statement from the track. Continue reading “Springduro” Cancelled by Weather

Sharon Speedway: “Springduro” Delayed to March 30th

Sharon Speedway has been forced to postpone Saturday’s (March 23) scheduled open practice and “Springduro 150” Enduro until next Saturday, March 30. An unseasonably cold and wet March hasn’t enabled track crews to be able to get on the 3/8-mile surface to date in addition to the parking areas being unusable left track officials with no choice but to postpone. March 30 will utilize the same event times with the open practice from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. followed by the Enduro at 2:30 p.m.

“Between the continual rain, snow and cold conditions this month, it just hasn’t allowed us to get the track ready,” explained General Manager Dave Willoughby. “This week’s weather was really the nail in the coffin and with more snow on the way there’s just no way to get the track and grounds ready even though Saturday’s weather doesn’t look too bad. We obviously need to provide safe conditions for both the racers and fans. Hopefully we’ll get some dry, warmer weather next week.” Continue reading Sharon Speedway: “Springduro” Delayed to March 30th

Attica Opener Cancelled, Focus Shifts to All Star Weekend

Mother Nature is delaying Attica Raceway Park‘s silver season by a week, as the track cancelled Friday’s (March 22nd) opener due to poor conditions.

“The grounds, especially the parking areas, are just too wet and soft,” stated Director of Operations Rex LeJeune in a track release.  He continued, saying, “With rain and ice and snow the first couple of days of the week and very little drying opportunity and coupled with the forecast which calls for highs only in the mid 30s and lows in the 20s….that’s not a good combination for the fans and race teams.”

The delay means that Attica’s 25th season will instead kick off with a full weekend of UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints.  A full slate of racing will run on Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th.  Series on the schedule include the All Star Sprints, UMP DIRTcar Late Models, and 305 Sprints.  Gates open at 5 PM and 4 PM, respectively.  Adult tickets for Friday are $18 and $22 on Saturday.  Kids under ten are free.  For full pricing and race times, visit Attica Raceway Park’s website.

Sharon Speedway is still scheduled to kick off its season on Saturday, March 23rd.  Their “Springduro” Enduro is scheduled for a 2:30 PM start time.  Adult tickets are $7, kids 13 and under are free.
